Born in 2002, Online Locally began catering to local businesses in the Richmond, Va area. We focused on getting local business up and running online, then marketing their site. So few local business had an online presence at the time that everyone needed/wanted a website in order to begin. Creating websites became a ‘means to an end’ for us as we partnered with many web developers and designers in the area to service the demand. Intresting enough as we began to have success getting local businesses interested in online marketing, the timing was not right. We were too early in the game, granted we had many successes but the mindset of small business owners at the time was just too “if”-y. Well with the dot-com bubble bursting and all, the future was just too uncertain at the time, not to mention 9/11 was still fresh in everyones minds.
Fast forward to late 2008 and the whole arena has changed. We aren’t even in the same world now days. Technology and world affairs are just moving too fast. Experts even in late 2008 have been yelling that NOW is the best time to start a business.
Interesting enough, more than half of the top fortune 500 companies have started in a recession. Today, everyone from the president, congress and economy “expert” is saying just that… to banks… lend… to Entrepreneurs…start a business!
